MANA community Meeting [June 29]

MANA's summer community meeting will be held on Monday, June 29th, at North Decatur Presbyterian Church at 7 PM. Among other topics, there will be updates on Fuqua's plans for the Scott Boulevard Baptist Church Property and a recap on the vacant (FEMA-purchased) lots on Scott Circle. 

Fuqua's rezoning for "Decatur Crossings" approved

On Tuesday, June 23, the Board of Commissioners approved Fuqua's rezoning request for Phase II. MANA and the Cross-Neighborhoods Committee were able to come to terms to support the project. We will post more information, including the agreed-upon conditions and private agreement soon.

Demolition of the former Scott Boulevard Baptist Church began yesterday.

Update: The AJC has a brief update that states that "foundation work and grading for phase one should begin by late September with construction expected to last '18 to 20 months'.” In the article, Fuqua also stated that the redevelopment of Suburban Plaza has helped Fuqua's project because "major retail" at Suburban Plaza is a positive for other retailers scouting the area.

(most) DeKalb pools: free admission through June 22

Per Crossroad News, in response to the heat wave and through June 22, DeKalb County "is temporarily waiving admission fees at all pools until 6 p.m. on Monday with the exception of the Browns Mill Aquatic Facility."

In general, Medlock pool is "Open Wednesday-Saturday noon-6 p.m. (closed Tuesdays)" and open Sundays 1-6pm.

Reminder: Scott CIRCLE lot greenspace planning [June 18]

REMINDER: 2nd meeting about ideas for the Scott Circle vacant lots will be this Thur, 6/18 at 7 pm at N Decatur Presbyterian Church.

Kaizen Collaborative, the landscape firm hired by MANA and DHYS, will present some draft plans and discuss next steps. Please come help us with this effort! If you are unable to attend the meeting, please check back here for notes and next steps.

FREE ADOPTIONS!

Twice as Many Animal Entering the Shelter, Prompt LifeLine Animal Project to Offer Fee-Waived Adoptions throughout June!

ATLANTA, GA -- (June 1, 2015) – Looking for a great way to cool off this summer?  LifeLine Animal Project invites you to “Beat the Heat” by coming into DeKalb County Animal Services (DCAS) for a cool adoption special.  Throughout June, all dogs and cats six months and over may be adopted for FREE. Dogs must also weigh at least 25 lbs. to qualify.  Adopters will receive a dog or cat that has been spayed or neutered, has had all vaccines and is microchipped – a $250 value – for no cost.  Adoption counselors will be on hand to ensure the animals are being placed in good homes.

LifeLine’s DCAS Shelter Director Susan Feingold says that offering fee-waived adoptions is a great way to increase adoption rates. “With summer here, twice as many animals are coming into the shelters as usual, and free adoptions tend to create a buzz of excitement and bring more people into shelters,” she says.  “According to numerous studies, fee-waived promotions increase adoptions without compromising the quality of care that the animals receive.”
