Annual Medlock Community Summer Pool Party At Risk! Need Volunteers!

Each year we've hosted a popular and well-attended Medlock Community Pool Party and Potluck. It is always a tremendously fun and relaxing event to celebrate summertime at our neighborhood pool in Medlock Park.

This year, however, we do not have ANY volunteers to help plan the event! While we asked at the community meeting last month, we thought we'd ask one last time in this e-news hoping a few of you will reconsider and step up to form a "Pool Party Planning Team"!

If you'd be willing to help, please send a MANA an e-mail at medlockassoc@gmail.com by May 1st. We have a budget and some prior year planning steps to help make it just that much easier to volunteer, too.

April 30: Annual MANA Community Spring Clean-up

Saturday, April 30th, 9am to 1pm
Meet at Medlock Elementary for Bagels/Coffee and Join Project Teams

It is always more fun to clean with a team! Please come out Saturday April 30th at 9am to take to our streets and help make our community a prettier and safer place to live. In our past events, we've picked up litter from public areas around the school and park, cleaned storm drains, cleared sidewalks of muddied pine straw, and trimmed trees from blocking stop signs, among other tasks.

Come out and bring the whole family and just stay as long as you can. Just wear comfortable clothes you won't mind getting a little dirty in and your own rake or shovel and gloves is always great, if you have those. No experience required!

Bagels and coffee will be provided at the start of the day for our volunteers, Bring your own reusable mug, if you have one!

Power outage in parts of the neighborhood

A neighbor on Gaylemont reports that a tree fell at one of the entrances of Medlock Park, taking some power lines on its way down. GA Power is working on the problem but as of 6pm, power is still out and there are reports of the power being out in other streets as well (e.g. McCurdy).

Medlock Day: a celebration of a neighborhood school [May 7]

Dear MANA community,

We've scheduled a very special event that we hope to enlist MANA's help with in the coming weeks. With Medlock closing this summer, we wanted to have a day when we celebrate all that Medlock has meant to the community, and current/former students and employees.

On Saturday, May 7th from 12p-4p, we'll host "Medlock Day". It will be an open house with food, games for the kids, and as many memories as we can compile for the adults. We are hoping to reach out to everyone we can find who went to Medlock or worked at Medlock since it opened in the 1950's. We are also eager to gather whatever materials people may have (scrapbooks, photos, videos, articles, etc) so we can share them with attendees (and then return them safely to their owners!).

Can you help us spread the word? We'll have more info soon, but for now, this gives you an idea of what we hope to accomplish: get the word out about the event, and reach out to folks who may have some memories (in all possible forms) to share.

Please let us know how we can help you get the word out. Feel free to email medlockpta@gmail.com or call Tommy and Wendy Housworth at 404-371-8039.

Thanks so much,
Tommy Housworth
